Filing period for 2024 Montana Property Tax Rebate: August 15, 2025 – October 1, 2025.
Rebate amount: $400 or an amount not to exceed the property taxes paid on principal Montana residence for tax year 2024.
Qualifications:
- Owned a Montana residence for at least seven months in 2024
- Lived in this residence for at least seven months in 2024
- Paid property taxes on the residence (and up to one acre of land) in 2024
Fine Print:
- Property owners may only claim the rebate for one residence.
- Properties held by entities (LLCs, corporations, irrevocable trusts) do not qualify for the rebate
- Property owners who qualify and receive the 2024 Property Tax Rebate will be automatically applied for the Homestead Exemption on the same principal residence that received the rebate (reduced property tax rate beginning 2026).
