What is a 530A Trump Account?
530A Trump Accounts are new tax-advantaged accounts for eligible minors.  Parents, family members, and employers may contribute up to a combine total of $5000 annually.  The funds in these accounts grow tax-  deferred and convert into traditional IRAs when the child turns 18.  These accounts became available as of July 04, 2026.

On October 1, 2026, the U.S. Treasury completed automatic enrollment for eligible children who do not already have an active 530A Trump Account.  Automatic enrollment allows eligible children to begin receiving qualifying philanthropic contributions without first requiring a parent or guardian to open an account.  A parent or guardian must claim the child’s automatically enrolled 530A Trump Account to manage it and allow for family members, friends, and employers to contribute.

An eligible child is one who is:

  • Under the age of 18,
  • Has a Social Security number, and,
  • Meets legal U.S. citizenship requirements.

Each child may have ONE funded Trump Account at a time.  These funds may only be be invested in low-cost U.S. equity funds or ETFs.  Employers may contribute up to $2500 annually PER EMPLOYEE (regardless of how many children the employee may have).

Initial funding for 530A Trump Accounts

  • Children born between Jan 01, 2025 and Dec 31, 2028 are eligible for an initial government contribution of $1000 that does not count toward the annual contribution limit.
    • These funds are seeded to your child’s account only AFTER the account is claimed.
  • Children born between 2016 and 2024 may be eligible for a $250 initial contribution from Michael & Susan Dell.  Eligibility is based on Zip code and median household income, limited to the first 25 million eligible children.
    • These funds may already be in your child’s 530A Trump Account if your child was determined to be eligible.

Subsequent funding for 530A Trump Accounts

  • Eligible accounts may automatically receive philanthropic contributions automatically added to the accounts.
  • Employers may setup access accounts allowing them to contribute up to $2500 per employee per year.
  • Parents and family members may contribute up to $5000 (this limit includes employer contributions) per year.

Withdrawing funds

  • Funds may not be withdrawn from 530A Trump Accounts except under extremely limited circumstances (e.g., the death of the beneficiary).
  • At age 17, funds may be rolled into an ABLE account for eligible minors.
  • At age 18, funds convert into a traditional IRA account and may be withdrawn without early withdrawal penalties for qualified higher education expenses or the purchase of a first-home.  These withdrawals may be subject to income tax.
